Five learning modes

Five learning modes
Word Adventure introduces words in five Learning Modes: Multiple Choice with Audio Discussion, Flashcards, Column Matching, Sentence Completion and Laser Review. From the main screen, you can access all five modes as well as monitor your progress, change the volume you are working on, view the talking word list, change users, and exit.

Multiple choice

Multiple choice
The first exercise, Multiple Choice with Audio Discussion, is the most important and content rich. You choose the word or phrase that most closely matches the meaning of the Core Word. After identifying the correct word, you are presented with the Audio Discussion.

Audio discussion

Audio discussion
The Audio Discussion accelerates learning and increases retention by presenting the antonyms, synonyms, and derivations of the Core Word both printed on the screen and read aloud by a native English speaker for correct pronunciation and better retention. Audio Discussion also teaches new concepts by explaining the subtleties of close synonyms.

Flash cards

Flash cards
Flashcard exercises provide a simple way to become comfortable with a new group of words. The Core Word is displayed in a phrase at the top of the screen. The object of the exercise is for you to guess the proper definition during a defined interval. When the interval is up, the correct answer is displayed. And, you can easily revisit the Audio Discussion of the current word if you need to review a complete definition.

Column matching

Column matching
In the column matching exercise, you move each Core Word from the column on the left to the space on the right next to the closest matching word. You move the words by dragging them with your mouse.

Sentence completion

Sentence completion
The Sentence Completion exercise is one of the most challenging parts of the Word Adventure. It tests your knowledge of word meaning and spelling. A sentence containing a blank will appear on the screen. Type the correct Core Word in the blank space. You can call up the list of Core Words at any time by clicking on the Word List button.

Laser review

Laser review
Laser Review is an arcade-style review of the Core Word group. A Core Word appears in a phrase across the top of the screen. The correct definition and four incorrect definitions appear as asteroids in front of your spaceship. Using your mouse, you shoot the asteroid with the correct definition to score points.

Over 1400 words

Over 1400 words
From the main screen you can choose to view a complete list of the over 1400 words (200 Core Words plus synonyms, antonyms and related words) defined in each volume. By selecting a particular word, you can hear it pronounced and got to the audio discussion where it is defined.
